Privacy Policy

Roof Solar Estimator (the "Service") is operated by Franklin Polymathic LLC ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what information we handle when you use this site to estimate solar panel power generation for a roof, and how that information is used.
The short version
You don't need to create an account, and we don't collect your name, email address, phone number, or any payment information to use this tool. The only information the Service handles is the address you type in and the roof outline/panel choices you make, which are used solely to generate your estimate. We don't operate a database that stores this information after your session ends, and we don't use cookies, analytics, or tracking scripts of our own.
Information we handle
- The address you enter — sent to our server to look up your roof's location and, where available, its real-world geometry (area, tilt, facing).
- The resulting location (latitude/longitude) — derived from the address and used to request solar production and local utility-rate data for that location.
- Roof geometry you trace or enter — the shape(s) you draw on the satellite map, or the area/tilt/azimuth figures you type in by hand. This is held in your browser for the duration of your visit and sent with each estimate request; we don't save it to a database.
- The panel tier you pick — Budget, Standard, or Premium — used to calculate system size and production.
We don't ask for, and the Service doesn't require, your name, email, phone number, mailing address (beyond the property address you're estimating), or any payment details.
How this information is used
Solely to generate the roof/panel/production estimate you requested. We don't build an advertising profile from it, and we don't sell it.
Third parties involved in generating your estimate
Producing an estimate requires sending some of the information above to the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Google (Geocoding API, Solar API, and Maps JavaScript API) — receives the address and/or coordinates to locate the property, look up existing roof-geometry data where Google has it, and render the satellite map you trace on.
- The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), a U.S. Department of Energy laboratory (PVWatts API and Utility Rates API) — receives the property's coordinates to estimate solar production and the local average electricity rate.
- Our hosting provider, Cloudflare — processes standard web request data (such as IP address and browser type) as part of delivering this site, as it would for any site it hosts.
Cookies and tracking
The Service itself doesn't set cookies or use analytics or advertising trackers. If that changes — for example, if we add a feature to connect you with solar installer partners — we'll update this policy and the section below first.
Installer referral links
If the Service offers a link to request quotes from a solar installer partner, clicking it will take you to that partner's own site, which has its own privacy policy and may use its own cookies or tracking to confirm the referral. We only find out that a referral happened; we don't collect or pass along your contact details ourselves. Any such link will be clearly marked, including that we may earn a commission if you request a quote through it.
Data retention
Because we don't operate a database for this tool, the address, roof geometry, and panel selections you enter exist only in your browser for that visit and in the request sent to generate your estimate — we don't retain them afterward on our end. Our hosting provider's standard request logs are retained per Cloudflare's own policies, not ours.
Children's privacy
This Service isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service changes. Material changes will update the effective date above.
