Terms of Use
Effective date: October 4, 2026
Roof Solar Estimator (the "Service") is operated by Franklin Polymathic LLC ("we," "us," "our"). By using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
What the Service is
The Service is a free tool that estimates solar panel power generation for a given roof, based on an address you provide, a roof outline you trace (or enter by hand), and a panel tier you choose. It doesn't sell anything directly, doesn't process payments, and doesn't require an account.
Estimates are informational only, not professional advice
Every number the Service shows you — system size, panel count, annual or monthly output, capacity factor, and estimated savings — is an approximation for general informational purposes, not a guarantee of actual solar performance, energy savings, or cost. In particular:
- Roof geometry may come from third-party aerial data, from a shape you traced on a satellite image, or from numbers you typed in by hand — each with different accuracy, and none of them a substitute for an on-site survey.
- The three panel tiers (Budget/Standard/Premium) use a representative fixed panel size and wattage for comparison purposes, not a specific model you can purchase.
- Production figures rely on a third-party modeling API (NREL's PVWatts) using generic panel categories, not this panel's exact efficiency curve. When that live service is temporarily unavailable, the Service falls back to its own rough approximation model instead of real weather-based data, and clearly marks those figures as approximate when it does.
- Estimated savings use a location's average residential electricity rate, not your actual utility bill, rate plan, or net-metering terms.
Before making any purchase or installation decision, get a formal, site-specific assessment from a licensed solar installer. Nothing on this Service is financial, engineering, structural, or tax advice.
Third-party data sources
The Service depends on third-party APIs (including Google's Geocoding, Solar, and Maps services, and NREL's PVWatts and Utility Rates APIs) that we don't control. These services may be slow, temporarily unavailable, or return inaccurate or incomplete data, and we don't guarantee their uptime or accuracy.
No warranty
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for any decision made based on an estimate from this Service, or for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from its use.
Acceptable use
Please don't misuse the Service — for example, by attempting to disrupt it, scrape or automate it at a volume that degrades it for others, or use it for any unlawful purpose.
Third-party / installer referral links
If the Service links you to a solar installer partner to request quotes, leaving our site through that link is governed by that partner's own terms, not ours. We aren't responsible for the partner's pricing, service, or conduct. We may earn a commission if you request a quote through such a link, which will be disclosed next to it.
Changes
We may update, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service, or these terms, at any time. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to conflict of law principles.
